Endocrinology is the branch of medicine that deals with the endocrine system; basically the endocrine glands and organs that create and store hormones, and how they work in the body. Hormones in glands and organs such as the pancreas, adrenal gland, pituitary, thyroid and hypothalamus help the body regulate a variety of body functions including breathing, energy level, organ function, fluid balance, and weight control.
An endocrinologist is a physician specially trained to diagnose and treat diseases that affect the endocrine system, including diabetes, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, Cushing syndrome and metabolic disorders.
